Toehold on the foot of "The Awakening"
The Awakening, National Harbor, Md.A youngster tries to hold his grip after dashing up the larger-than-life foot of a sculpture known as “The Awakening,” which protrudes from the sand at National Harbor, Md., along the Potomac River across from Alexandria, Va. The sculpture, the work of J. Seward Johnson Jr.,  was installed at Hains Point, East Potomac Park, for nearly three decades, starting in 1980, but in recent years has been at National Harbor, an oddly detached business and residential complex.
