Amtrak station, St. Louis

Amtrak station, St. Louis
This is virtually the entire Amtrak station in St. Louis, a sorry counterpoint to the city’s railroad heyday in the mid-20th century when nearly 200 trains a day backed into the city’s sprawling terminal, which now houses a festival marketplace. On this morning, two days before Christmas, the 6:30 a.m. departure for Chicago began with the conductor announcing in the station that she wanted to make sure families would have space to sit together, so solo riders should make friends and partner up in the double seats.  UPDATE, ONE YEAR LATER:  In November 2008, a new station opened.
